Winter
Winter in Pyhätunturi offers a true Lapland experience surrounded by snowy fells and silent forests. Enjoy alpine skiing and freeride terrain on Pyhä’s well-known slopes, or explore the peaceful wilderness on cross-country skis and winter hiking trails through ancient landscapes. Visit a nearby Christmas Village to experience festive Lapland atmosphere, or take part in unforgettable safaris such as dog sledding, snowmobiling, and reindeer spotting, where you can encounter Arctic nature and culture up close.
Summer
In summer, Pyhä-Luosto National Park reveals dramatic scenery shaped over millions of years, including ancient fells and deep gorges like Isokuru. Marked trails invite you to hike through pristine wilderness, while canoeing offers a peaceful way to explore nearby waters. Nature lovers can enjoy birdwatching, berry picking, and fishing in clean northern surroundings. For more active days, try mountain biking on scenic routes or experience the landscape on horseback, moving slowly through Lapland’s timeless nature.
Location and Transport
Travel by car:
The easiest route to Pyhä goes along the E75 road from Helsinki – about 950km, 11-13 hours. There are multiple gas stations along the route and possibilties to rest for the nights.
Travel by plane:
There are many international flights to Rovaniemi or catch a connecting flight from Helsinki. From airport you can rent a car or take a local bus.
Travel by train:
The nearest train stations are at Rovaniemi and Kemijärvi. Travelling to Rovaniemi or Kemijärvi from southern Finland (10-12 hours) is easy, also with a car-carrier train. SkiBus transports you to Pyhä from both of these stations.
